To commemorate the OBA’s 30th, we undertook a project to sponsor the purchase of equipment for the A/L Engineering Technology stream (Eng-Tech) for the Technology Lab of the College. The total cost of the equipment was expected to be Rs. 2.3 m – in 2021 estimates – ($16,000 approx). There are over 50 students in the Engineering stream – however, the facilities available can only cater for 5 students at a time. This is the reason for the equipment and the OBA considered it a worthwhile project to help support the College maintain its excellence in one of its most popular streams over many, many years and which has produced many Engineers – some of whom are members of the Melbourne OBA.

The funds for the project were raised by the publication of a special souvenir to celebrate our 30th and it was distributed to members and other well-wishers at the Patrician Nite 2022 – in which our Rector, Rev Fr Anton Thirumahan was the special guest-of-honour.

A shipping container with 111 items of equipment – costing $6,000 – was dispatched in October 2022. Over 100 items were sourced locally (in Sri Lanka) with funds remitted by the OBA to the College in 2022. This is a magnificent effort by members – those who sponsored the souvenir, contributed the funds, researched, sourced and purchased the 111 items in Australia, packed the container, provided advice and very valuable information to name a few – and are to be congratulated.
